My experience in Partnering in Business with Germany 2026

In September 2026, I took part in the Partnering in Business with Germany programme on behalf of CON-TUBO. Based in Mannheim, I spent several weeks taking part in training, industrial visits and business meetings alongside other Mexican business leaders. It was an opportunity to step away from day-to-day operations, discover different ways of working and gain a broader perspective on what we want to build for the company.

I travelled with a clear purpose: to explore opportunities to collaborate with German manufacturers and learn about solutions that could be relevant to our customers in Mexico. The experience also gave me space to reflect on how we make decisions and what we need to strengthen before taking on new projects.

What Partnering in Business with Germany involves

Partnering in Business with Germany is an initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). It is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German agency for international cooperation. In Mexico, the Ministry of Economy is its institutional partner, and AHP International coordinated our group’s activities in Germany.

The programme included an initial online preparation phase followed by an in-person programme from 7 to 23 September. It combined training, company visits, business meetings and reflection sessions to help participants apply what they had learned to their own projects.

We worked on topics such as international project management, business plan development, corporate strategy and structure, corporate governance, innovation and change management. For CON-TUBO, these sessions offered tools to evaluate new business areas and better prepare for collaboration with international suppliers.

Learning beyond day-to-day operations

A practical perspective on industrial visits

The programme included visits to Kärcher, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Pepperl+Fuchs. These visits introduced the group to areas such as cleaning technology, applied research and industrial automation. We also visited Speedikon, broadening our perspective on digital solutions and new technologies.

Towards the end of the programme, we visited BASF, Contargo and Daimler. The variety of companies helped us connect industrial production, logistics and mobility with the challenges in our own businesses. I also attended Automechanika Frankfurt, an opportunity to explore the automotive industry and its supply chain.

Exchanging experiences with other Mexican business leaders

Sharing the programme with business leaders from different sectors was another valuable part of these weeks. Although our products and markets differed, we found common challenges when discussing growth, organisation and business relationships.

Listening to how others approach their decisions helps you reflect on your own. I take those conversations with me, along with what I learned during the sessions and visits. I am also grateful to my fellow participants for their willingness to share their experiences and projects.

What this experience brings to CON-TUBO

At CON-TUBO, we supply stainless steel pipe, fittings, flanges and valves to industry in Mexico, with options in grades 304 and 316 depending on the product and application. For engineers, maintenance teams and purchasing professionals, sourcing decisions require a review of specifications, documentation and delivery terms.

That is why I value getting to know the people who develop and manufacture these products. Understanding their capabilities helps us assess which options can meet our customers’ needs, from industrial process projects to applications with hygienic requirements.

The business meetings during these weeks opened conversations that need follow-up. The next step is to assess their technical and commercial feasibility and determine where we can add value. Building a supplier relationship takes time and requires an understanding of what each party needs and can offer..

Back in Mexico with work to do

Following this experience, I want to follow up with the contacts I made and discuss with our team which ideas we can put into practice. The value of taking part in a programme like this also lies in what we do when we return: what we improve, which projects we assess and how we turn that into better service for our customers.

I would like to thank BMWE, GIZ, Mexico’s Ministry of Economy and the AHP International team for making the programme possible. Thank you as well to everyone who welcomed us in Germany and to my fellow participants for the conversations and shared learning.

If you are considering stainless steel pipe, fittings, flanges or valves for your plant or project, share your requirements with CON-TUBO. Our team can help you review sourcing options based on your application’s specifications.
